New restaurants
The new café Moomicafe in Novoslobodskaya area is a family place. Here one can take part in a theatre impromptu, watch a puppet play, become a creator of a paper theatre, listen to a fairy tale and buy some hand-made souvenirs. The main motive of this unusual café is Tove Jansson’s Moomin books and their characters Moomintrolls – little white trolls with hippopotamus-like noses. The menu is mostly Scandinavian: salmon mousse, potato-and-codfish croquettes with honey mustard, Finnish fish soup with mussels and date pudding. The most popular starter are Scandinavian sandwiches “smorrebrods” with duck and fried onion, baked beetroot and Mozzarella, with salmon, feta cheese and greens. There is also a huge dessert section with seven variations of hot chocolate. Every cup of coffee in Moomicafe is served with button-shaped cookies as a compliment.
